Posted Monday, June 2nd 2014 @ 1pm

The CHP says the crash happened about 5 a.m. Monday on southbound I-15 just north of the 56. A Nabisco truck overturned and went up an embankment, landing on its side. Three cars behind the truck were damaged in a chain reaction crash. The truck driver, along with an elderly female driver suffered minor injuries.

Two lanes of the five-lane highway were closed and not reopened until 6:30 a.m. but traffic was bumper to bumper for almost 20 miles for much of the morning commute. HOV lanes normally reserved for carpoolers and FasTrak users were open to all motorists while crews worked to clean up the wrecka.

In another crash Monday morning, one person was killed on the 5 in the NorthCounty in a collision between a car and a truck on Interstate 5 in the CampPendleton area.

The collision occurred shortly after
10 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway near the decommissioned San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim, whose identity was not immediately available, died at the scene.

The wreckage and emergency vehicles left three of four southbound lanes near the Border Patrol checkpoint at
Las Pulgas Road blocked, the CHP reported. Traffic remained gridlocked for miles to the north at midday.
