Trapped Driver Rescued From San Carlos Ravine

Posted June 10th, 2014 @ 9:34am

A trapped driver was pulled from her car after she drove off the road and tumbled 100 feet down a ravine in San Carlos overnight Monday.

The crash occurred at about midnight at Cowles Mountain Boulevard and Rainswept Way. Jim Gaboury, a San Diego Fire-Rescue battalion chief, said crews struggled to reach the car. They had to cut through trees and use a rope to tie it off. They then had to use a portable Jaws of Life to extricate the victim.

"We had difficulty getting to the victim in the vehicle… she drove through the guardrail and through a very dense tree population,” Gaboury said.

There were no passengers in the car. The woman was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

She was expected to be booked on drunken driving charges after she is released from the hospital. Her name was not released.
