COVID-19 Cases Rising as Testing Sites See Long Lines

Long lines were reported at San Diego County's COVID-19 testing sites this week as the number of cases rise to highest levels since January.

The wait for tests could become longer. County testing sites are closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and will reopen Sunday, Dec. 26.

County public health officials reported the highest number of infections in almost a year as the number of positive tests jumped to 2,336. That’s the largest daily case number since Jan. 22-23, 2021 when there were 2,847 and 2,980 new positive tests.

With the Omicron variant surging, the county recorded more tests as well – 31,504, which returned positive at a 7.4% rate over the past seven days.

Officials Thursday also reported eight deaths as the pandemic death toll rose to 4,442. The total number of local cases since the pandemic began reached 405,705.
