4 People Die in 3 Separate Crashes in 24 Hours

Two people were killed following a three-car crash in Oceanside Friday night. It happened at 7:35 p.m. and involved a U-Haul on State Route 76 and Canyon Road.

According to Oceanside police, a Mercedes sedan heading north on Canyon ran a red light and was struck broadside by the U-Haul truck, which was heading east on SR-76.

“The force of this collision caused both of these vehicles to become entangled together and collided with a white Kia Sedan that was in the left turn lane of westbound SR-76,” police said.

Both people in the Mercedes were pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the U-Haul and Kia were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Police say alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash.

Driver Dies While Trying to Pass

San Diego police say a driver died Thursday night after he lost control of his car and crashed while trying to pass multiple vehicles on San Pasqual Valley Road early Thursday evening, The male driver of a Dodge Charger heading west when car crossed into eastbound lanes in order to pass vehicles. But it veered left off the road and struck a boulder on the south side. The car flipped over back into the traffic lanes, crossing both of them before going down an embankment on the north side of the road. The car came to a stop about 200 feet down the embankment. The driver died at the scene.

Motorcyclist Without Lights Dies in Crash

Police say a 31-year-old motorcyclist riding without his lights Thursday night when he collided with an SUV in University City. Officers say the rider was going at a high rate of speed as he headed east down a dark stretch of Governor Drive about 8:15 p.m.. As he approached Erlanger Street on a his 2018 KRM dirt bike, a woman driving a silver 2005 Lexus SUV turned left onto Governor Drive in front of the motorcycle. The rider struck the SUV. Police say alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
