Meet San Diego Mayoral Candidates: Todd Gloria, Scott Sherman, Barbara Bry

Candidates for Mayor of San Diego 2020

San Diego Mayoral candidates Todd Gloria, Scott Sherman and Barbara Bry share their vision for San Diego and key areas of focus if elected Mayor of America's Finest City. Listen to their interviews with Darren Smith and Jack Cronin.

Todd Gloria is a third generation San Diegan who currently represents the 78th Assembly District.

Party Affiliation: Democrat

Campaign Site: https://toddgloria.com/

Campaign Position:

As a native San Diegan, it’s clear to me that San Diego needs strong, experienced, and progressive leadership in the Mayor’s Office to tackle the long-standing problems facing our city.

I’m talking about issues like making housing more affordable for working families, putting forward real solutions to end homelessness, staying true to our landmark Climate Action Plan, and much more. But, I’m also talking about the issues that have not always been at the forefront of our civic dialogue like community equity, environmental justice, and income inequality.

San Diegans deserve a Mayor who understands these tough problems, who has experience in running the city well, and the leadership and vision to move our city beyond business as usual. More importantly, San Diegans deserve a Mayor who works for all of us and will make us a city of opportunity that invests in every neighborhood and every San Diegan.

Scott Sherman has lived in San Diego almost his entire life, and currently serves on the San Diego City Council, representing District 7.

Party Affiliation: Republican

Campaign Site: https://www.sherman2020.com/

Campaign Position:

The reason I'm running for mayor is simple: After seven years on the Council, I’ve watched powerful special interests bully council members into betraying San Diegans in order to expand their power or line their pockets. I’ve watched ambitious politicians adopt policy positions that make no sense for our taxpayers, or are dangerous for our communities. There’s no accountability taken, or responsibility accepted, for the problems facing San Diego and frankly, the people who live and work here deserve better.

Homelessness has exploded with more and more people with mental health and addiction issues living on our streets. Housing costs continue to soar, chasing our families to other states. Crime rates are going up and our communities are less safe because law enforcement is hamstrung by politicians who don’t want them to enforce the law.

Most politicians base their decisions on what I call the “2P Principle”…who am I going to Pander to or who am I going to Piss off. I don’t care about either. I’ve spent my career doing what I think is right for this city. And I’m running because I believe you deserve a mayor who will put what’s right ahead of what’s popular. That’s the job.

Barbara Bry has lived in San Diego for many years, and currently serves on the San Diego City Council, representing District 1.

Party Affiliation: Democrat

Campaign Site: https://barbarabry.com/

Campaign Position:

Barbara Bry is a problem-solver, not a politician. She is a successful high-tech entrepreneur, a nonprofit leader, a mother, and a problem-solver.

‍Barbara never expected to run for Mayor. But when she joined the City Council, she found a mess. Now, she’s set out to fix it.

I will bring leadership that puts solutions for San Diegans first, prioritizes fiscal discipline, stands up to the special interests, treats all residents and communities fairly, and creates comprehensive solutions to long-standing problems.

Barbara's key initiatives include: Standing up for your neighborhoods; regulating electric scooters; making SDSU West a reality; and increasing transparency between our city and businesses.
