That's what we like to say in the KOGO Traffic Center..because it is true.

Hwy 78

It's been long enough now to start passing judgment on the effect of the new lanes added in San Marcos. After 2 years of construction and a $40 million price tag has Caltans made a difference?  Well....yes and no. The daily commute east to the 15 on hwy78 is definately easier past Barham Dr.  However...it seems the bottleneck has been simply moved back to Twin Oaks Valley.  Granted not as big a mess but we expected more, daily delays are still there through San Marcos.  Which begs the question; what about the other projects in the county?

I-805 in the Golden Triangle is impacted daily with the construction of carpool lanes down the middle from the split to Govenor Dr.  Expected to be completed in 2015 they come with a price tag of $587 million!!!

I-805 in the South Bay. The first of two phases of contstruction is under way again adding express lanes past Hwy 54 from Chula Vista to National City total price...a whopping $1.4 Billion. Phase one completion some time next year.  Still looking for funding for the second phase, good luck with that.

Hwy94 contruction of express lanes (why more carpool lanes is another story) is still on the chalkboard.  Initial cost estimates $500-600 million.

Lots of money being spent, lots of traffic being effected...for better or worse? Time will tell but history is not on our side.

Let me add this note.   A recent survey says texting while driving has now surpassed drinking and driving as the number one killer on our roads.  Please be safe.
