It’s been 40 years since we went to the moon, and a lot of people want to go back. Personally, I don’t get it.

The Apollo project was one of those classic guy things. I said I’d do it, and dang it, I’m gonna do it. And sure it cost billions of dollars, but we got some cool as crap rocks, not to mention velcro and Tang.

Yeah, I know, if it wasn’t for Queen Isabella, Columbus would have never discovered the new world, but remember, he was looking for India. So give or take ten thousand miles or two, he was dead on.

I’m no luddite. I love science. And I get satellites, robotic missions, and the need for exploration. But we can do a lot more with half a trillion dollars than planting a flag in some crater. There are supercolliders, embryonic research, infrastructure, and here’s a crazy one...letting us keep our own money.

I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m pretty sure it’s not the space shuttle chunking around the asteroids just to keep a few defense contractors happy. That’s a countdown to economic disaster.
