Here in California, we always need water. We've had a drought here since forever. Right now we buy our water from the places like the Sacramento basin, the Colorado river, and Arrowead. If only there were a large body of water somewhere nearby that we could tap.
Ah, if only.
Hello fellow Californians. I'd like to introduce you to the Pacific ocean. The largest ocean on earth, ya know the big ball where we live.
There's so much water here that Kirsty Alley could take two baths a day for a month before we'd need to start draining the Atlantic. But still, we ignore the Pacific as a source for our water needs.
Why? Well, it's full of salt. And that's expensive to remove. It requires a lot of energy and special desalination plants. But it can be done. So why won't we do it?
Well, it turns out that there are some groups against water. Seriously. Anti-water groups. Only in California.
What they really oppose is not the water, but what water would bring to the state.
More people. Growth. Prosperity. They view growth as a quality of life issue. But without water, we lose life, and I’m assuming dying reduces the quality as well.
Well, somebody better figure it out soon. I heard Kirsty just got home and is drawing a bath.
That can't be good.
