SAN DIEGO - San Diego Mayor Bob Filner's "intensive therapy" plans in counseling will not change how the mayor behaves, according to a new exclusive poll released Monday by 10News/U-T San Diego.
According to 500 people who responded, 70 percent say therapy won't help, while 20 percent say two weeks of intensive therapy will help Filner change his personal behavior. The other 10 percent are not sure what therapy may do.
Further, 71 percent said Filner should step aside temporarily while he is out of commission, and 24 percent said Filner should remain mayor while in therapy, and four percent were not sure.
When the mayor made his announcement for in-patient treatment on Friday, Filner said he will be updated each morning and evening by phone on city business.
The poll also asked people how they felt about the Democratic Party after the sexual harassment accusations against the mayor, compared to before the news about Filner broke.
About 50 percent of people said they felt the same, while 41 percent said they felt worse and eight percent said they felt better. One percent answered they were not sure.
The exclusive 10News/U-T San Diego poll was conducted on Monday bySurveyUSA(mobile users clickhttp://bit.ly/1e6PgnI). The margin of sampling errors ranged from four to 4.5 percent on the questions.
