What is wrong with Bob Filner? Filner has been holding on since the news was released about his fiance dumping him. That was July 8th; the first Monday after you recovered from your 4th of July bender. Here we are more than three weeks later. Filner's political wound is STILL squirting like the artery of a drunken magicians unfortunate assistant. His plan is not to stop the bleeding for both his career and the City of San Diego but to see just how wide he can split the wound by elongating his misery for another three weeks.
For this week and the following two from rehab, the local media will have the option to focus on 1) What's up with Filner or 2) Inconsequential stories about panda birthdays and the best burgers in the South Bay. Guess which one is likely to matter more AND better capture the attention of the potential audiences?
Filner's rehab stint is his plan to buy time and hope the citizens forget that he's a giant a-hole. Instead, the more time he keeps this political wound open the harder it is going to be for his career AND San Diego to heal. But, who am I to complain? I won't have to talk about pandas for at least another three weeks!
