SAN DIEGO - San Diego Interim Mayor Todd Gloria along with two city council members and San Diego Chamber of Commerce CEO Jerry Sanders left San Diego on Sunday morning for Washington, D.C. to advocate for policies vital to the region.
The trip had been planned for several months. It was the same trip that Sanders uninvited former embattled Mayor Bob Filner from when he became embroiled in several scandals.
The mayor's office tells 10News the trip includes meeting with the Department of Transportation and the Pentagon, as well as meeting with Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Sen. Barbara Boxer, who represent California.
The delegation will also meet with members of the Smithsonian Museum to discuss possible participation in the 2015 Balboa Park Centennial Celebration and take part in a roundtable with Silicon Valley businesses about issues pertaining to business development.
Gloria will also meet with lobbyists rehired by the city of San Diego to act and represent on behalf of San Diego interests. Gloria recently rehired the firm that Filner had let go during the past nine months.
Gloria also plans to urge local congressional members to work towards a resolution and avoid the impact a federal government shutdown would have on the city of San Diego.
The delegation is scheduled to return to San Diego on Wednesday.
