The headline on the story caught my attention.
UCSD creates center for human imagination.
UC San Diego and the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation., named after the late futurist and author who wrote 2001 A Space Odyssey have formed the new Center for Human Imagination.
The story says the center will involve thinkers from technology, sociology, politics, medicine and literature, especially science fiction.
The director of the new center says human imagination is changing the world…we need a more thoughtful, deliberative approach to understanding how it works.
You imagine being part of the center for human imagination where you sit around all day imagining? Sounds like fun.
But then imagining something is only the first step toward changing something and making it better.
After you imagine something you have to have the motivation and education to do make it happen.
So while a center for human imagination may be a good idea, we may also need a center for human action.
Because a good idea doesn’t change anything until you do something about it.
