So San Diego’s new mayor keeps making waves.
Bob Filner has never shied away from saying what’s on his mind and his latest proposal is no different and sure enough, it’s generating controversy.
His idea is this. San Diego and Tijuana should have the same area code.
No matter than San Diego itself doesn’t even have the same area code.
But that doesn’t bother Mayor Filner…he just thinks it’s a way for him to let our neighbors in Mexico know that we love them.
Doesn’t matter if it’s not doable because of the different telephone companies on each side of the border.
And no matter if it would soon force an area code split because of the number of customers involved.
For Mayor Filner, it’s not always about the facts but the appearance that he cares about that is
important.
Everyone here can already talk to anyone there in Tijuana and it’s just a few extra digits.
One reader UT San Diego.com suggested that Filner should share the same area code with Mars.
Hey if it would make him look good politically, he’d probably be for it.
