You imagine having a daughter who disappeared ten years ago suddenly turn up alive?
That’s what a lot of us are asking after those three young women, all kidnapped when they were teenagers by some creeps in Cleveland a decade ago, were rescued this week.
After 10 years, it is natural for a parent to just give up, and believe your daughter is dead and is not coming back.
It’s almost something that has to happen. How can a parent wake up every day wondering where their daughter is?
To ease the pain, you almost have to forget about her ever coming back and move on.
Yet, in the Cleveland case, the daughters did come back…ten years and lots of tears later.
And for the girls themselves, how can any of us imagine what that was like..held captive for ten long years.
It’s the same question we asked decades about Vietnam War POW’s held for years and years in a Communist death camp and kept in a closet size box.
None of us can know what it’s like and may none of us ever have to find out.
Thankfully, those three women’s nightmare is over, but the long healing is just beginning.
