No one feels sorry for Duke Cunningham, the former Congressman who just got out of prison this week.

The former Republican politician served eight terms in Congress and then served eight years in prison for taking 2-and-half million dollars in bribes from defense contractors.

Duke, who’s now 71 years old,  may have been a Navy flying ace during the Vietnam War, but even now, after serving all that time behind bars, no one feels sorry for him.

All people will remember now of Duke Cunningham will not be the war medals he got, but the luxury house, yacht and expensive antiques he got with all the money he took in bribes.

In fact, his name will probably now forever be associated with political corruption.  After all,
Cunningham was sentenced to one of the longest prison terms ever given to a member of Congress.

And now, he’s served his time and his punishment.  But still…no one feels sorry for him. 

Maybe it’s because the story of Duke Cunningham, is as old as the Book of Proverbs where Solomon warned of the dangers of pride. 

A lot of betting is going on right now as Miami and San Antonio get ready to
square off in the NBA's final round.

In Las Vegas, you can bet on almost anything.

But in Washington, all the betting is not about basketball, or any other sport, but
about politics. 

Specifically….there is a growing list of people now who are betting that Attorney General Eric
Holder won't be around much longer.

Holder has been under fire over the way he handled or didn’t handle the IRS scandal and what he said and didn’t say about the Justice Department’s secret snooping into reporters’ emails and cell phone records.

And not all of those betting on Holder’s departure are Republicans as you might expect.

Even NBC’s legendary anchorman Tom Brokaw was on TV the other day saying that with
all the criticism and all the investigations in Congress, he doesn’t see how Eric Holder is going to be able to keep his job as Attorney General no matter how much President Obama may like the guy.

We’re all too familiar with pit bulls mauling and sometimes killing people.

But it’s not often that the owner of killer dogs like these are charged with murder.

That’s what happened this week up in the Antelope Valley here in Southern California to a 29 year old man, a pit bull owner.

His dogs viciously attacked and killed a 63 year old woman jogger. 

Four of his pit bulls were involved in the attack that left the woman with more than 150 puncture wounds.  She was so badly bitten, she didn’t even survive the ambulance ride to the hospital.

So now this 29 year old pit bull owner is in jail being held on 1-million dollars bail and faces murder charges something pretty unusual in dog attacks.

With all the attacks by pit bulls on innocent people, it’s about time prosecutors got tough on an irresponsible dog owner whose pit bulls by the way had attacked others in the past.

But even this murder charge won’t make irresponsible dog owners go away. So maybe it’s finally time for the breed to go away and pass legislation to ban pit bulls.

A few years ago, Darrell Issa announced that he was going to hold a news conference in San Diego and much of the speculation at that time was that he was not going to run for
another term in Congress.

As it turned out, he announced that he was running again.  And little did he know at that time that years later, the name of Darrell Issa would be so famous in Washington.

In recent months, San Diego County’s best known member of Congress has become almost a one man assault team on Barack Obama.

As chairman of the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, he’s in the perfect spot to go after the President and his administration and he has…with all guns blazing.

From the Benghazi mess to the IRS mess, Issa has led the questioning of what Obama knew and when he knew it.

And he has made it clear, he is not giving up until he feels he gets the whole story and makes sure that Obama and others in the White House fess up to what they know.

Will this make him a leading Republican candidate for president in 2016?  Too early to tell.  But don’t be surprised if Issa runs for president.

If you’re a parent, you know how hard the job can be.  But a new report is out that shows how that hard work can pay off. And how when you don’t do your job as a parent, it can make life difficult for you and your kids.

The report is based on an annual survey of more than 67-thousand people across the country…including teenagers and adults.

The survey found that more than 20-percent of parents think that what they say has little if any influence on whether their son or daughter uses drugs, alcohol or tobacco.

And incredibly, about 10-percent of parents say they never talked to their kids when they were ages 12 to 17 about why it can be harmful to use drugs, alcohol or tobacco.

And the most important thing is this:  The report says surveys show that teenagers who know that their parents would strongly disapprove of them using drugs were less likely to use them. 

In other words, parents who parent have kids who are less likely to get into trouble with drugs, alcohol or tobacco.  But then we shouldn’t need a study to know that.
