When I think about Junior Seau's suicide I say, and this sounds harsh, I don't care.  Until we start flying the flag half staff for every dead troop fighting in Afghanistan the fact that the fire department by my house was flying theirs half-staff is wrong.  The overreaction to his rational act is also something that bothers me.  It sounds cold, but this fascination with a suicide is creepy to me.

Does anybody in my generation (X) or the generations after actually think that Social Security is solvent?  This author tries to convince us that Social Security is not only running wonderfully well, but that it is not going broke (what is conveniently left out of the article is that ALL of the money collected by Social Security is spent in the general fund and simply counted twice - it's government accounting - sort of like counting what you make annually twice in order to get a loan for a home.

When Obama called for the troop surge in Afghanistan he said it was the right war for the people of the United States.  But, according to intelligence agencies around the world, despite the highly spiked football over the death of a fairly irrelevant bin Laden, the Taliban is stronger than BEFORE the surge.  How can that be?

You might remember him as Goober Pyle, from the Andy Griffith Show, but he was a staple of Hollywood (and now ME-TV and TVLand) and however you knew him he died Sunday - George Lindsey was 83 and he'll probably be remembered as the man that gave the word 'goober' a popular meaning we know today.  RIP Goober Pyle.
